I am sure there have been multiple instances in your life where you have realized that knowing what you want is no longer enough.

You have to do something about it to translate the knowing into doing, to act.

You may have silently goaded yourself to:

Make the decision. Take the risk. Say no. Say yes. Begin. Stop. Take responsibility for what is yours.

And then done nothing about it.

And if you look here closely, things get interesting, because knowing what you want and being able to act on it are two very different things.

You can know for months that something needs to change and still find reasons to wait.

You can have a decision sitting in front of you and keep looking for more certainty.

You can know that you are taking on too much and still find it strangely difficult to let anyone else help.

And then there are people who seem to have the opposite problem.

They take charge of everything. They decide quickly. They solve the problem before anyone else has had time to think about it. They are the ones people rely on.

It looks like confidence.

Sometimes it is.

Sometimes it is simply easier to stay in control than to discover what happens when you are not.

That distinction can be difficult to notice.

A person can become extremely capable because capability has become their way of feeling safe. They take responsibility for everything, become indispensable, and eventually forget that not everything needs to be carried by them.

Another person may keep giving their decisions away because choosing for themselves feels too risky.

Both can spend years living around the same question:

Can I trust myself with the consequences of my choices?

When Things Don’t Go According to Plan

You see the answer most clearly when things don’t go according to plan.

Someone says no.

The decision turns out to be wrong.

The work doesn’t produce the expected result.

Someone else does things differently.

You discover that effort does not give you control over the outcome.

What happens then?

Many people push harder. Some give up. Others take control of everything around them. And then there are people who immediately decide that they were the problem.

Maybe you recognize yourself in one of these types.

And what if I tell you that sometimes the healthiest choice is the least dramatic?

You made the choice.

You did what you could.

It didn’t work.

Now what?

That is a very different relationship with power.

A Different Relationship With Power

It doesn’t require you to be certain before you act.

It doesn’t require you to be right.

And it doesn’t require you to control what everyone else does.

It asks something simpler:

Can you trust yourself enough to act, and then meet whatever comes next?

Perhaps this is what makes our intelligence at the solar plexus center so interesting.

We often describe it through power, will, confidence and action.

But when that intelligence is clear, perhaps power becomes less about control and more about self-direction.

Knowing what is yours to do.

And, of course, doing it.

Knowing what is not yours to carry, and letting it be.

And being able to stand with the consequences without immediately giving your power away or trying to take somebody else’s.

The Quiet Strength of Self-Trust

Maybe real strength is not the feeling that:

“I can control this.”

Maybe it is the quieter feeling:

“Whatever happens, I will deal with it.”

That is a very different kind of power.

If you want to explore how to invoke this power that already exists with you, let’s connect.

Nothing needs to be put into you, nothing needs to be stripped. All you need is awareness, a direction, and a will to empower yourself.

The Distinction
